A very, very big thank you goes out to everyone who has sacrificed their time, money for this defense as well as the hundreds who showed up tonight to voice their support. This could not have happened with you.
The Springfield City Council sent a bill that would add "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" to its list of protected classes to a task force. Although the bill will most likely not be discussed publicly for some time, this bill has not been completely defeated.
As Mayor Stephens said, there will be a "cool down period." Once this time has elapsed there will be individuals added to a task force to examine this ordinance more closely. It could never be brought up again, or it could be brought up at any time.
We will send out periodic updates to these media.
Misconceptions, misconstrued meanings, and propaganda play a big game in the war against family values. To help you get more acquainted with some of the arguments and talking points of the progressive activists working for this ordinance, please check out the following resources.
This pamphlet clarifies certain misconceptions about the meaning of "discrimination" (some forms of which can't-and shouldn't-be eliminated) and of "civil rights" (distinguishing those which limit government power from those which limit the rights of others). It also explains why homosexual conduct is not comparable to other characteristics usually protected by civil rights laws ("race, color, religion, sex, or national origin"). Protection against private "discrimination" has historically been offered only for characteristics that are inborn, involuntary, immutable, innocuous, and/or in the Constitution-yet none of these describe homosexual behavior.

A complete and thorough (~5 hrs) audio response to a video posted by Matthew Vines regarding Christianity and homosexuality. In this video, common arguments that attempt to use the bible to condone homosexuality are examined and invalidated. This is a "must listen" for anyone who wants to understand common biblical objections regarding homosexuality as well as how to discuss these points with others.

This ordinance is not a local initiative. It is an initiative by a group of homosexual activists who are trying to use Springfield as a stepping stone for passing ordinances like this in other communities.
"this is the tough fight. This has been our platform to do in Springfield for about seven years. This is a long-fought battle. This is strategic. If we are able to win this fight with your help in Springfield, this is a tipping point to be able to get more pro-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) components in the state"

The present age is characterized by a concern for "tolerance" and "inclusiveness" regarding differing beliefs and opinions-with one glaring exception. Those who hold to traditional views about marriage and human sexuality are increasingly being targeted by homosexual activists and their supporters. This pamphlet documents how Christians and others who hold to traditional values in public schools, universities, government, and in the workplace are increasingly being persecuted for expressing their Constitutionally-protected religious beliefs and refusing to accept the radical homosexual agenda.

The Task Force created by the Mayor's Commission on Human Rights and Community Relations (MCHRCR) published a strategic plan to promote "diversity"...
They envisioned creating partnerships with homeschool organizations to increase home-schooled children's "sensitivity" to the values and concerns of "diverse" groups. They believed this would help keep children from becoming "stagnant" to new ideas. The group's plans were similar for public and private school students.
Although the MCHRCR is not really funded anymore, they published a document in 2010 that details their plans until 2014. In addition to their plans, this document has some background and context about what they do, what their goals are, and what information they use to make recommendations to the city council. It is useful to note that the MCHRCR is not solely a homosexual activism group. Their mission has been co-opted by activists under the guise of "human rights." Please see the preceding article about why this is wrong.
